Red boys and Roald Dahl

I caught Chris and Tristen dressed accidentally identically -- and reading James and the Giant Peach. Chris was a little camera shy. :)

Apple eater

Tillie is eating some solid foods now. We started out with sweet potatoes, of course -- at about 6.5 months (we were all sick at the six-month mark; just couldn't work it in). And from there, we've moved through the usual fruits and veggies. She also likes sucking on the cores of apples and pears while I cook.

Tillie is a basketball

Thank you, Amy Mac, for the nickname.

At her six-month (okay seven, by the time we got there) checkup, Tillie was 85th percentile for weight and 10th for height. Though as I write this, I think I'd better go back and check; she just doesn't seem that heavy to me! Maybe she was 85th percentile for weight-to-height. Whatever. Seems healthy and happy enough. Rarely cries, interested in everything. Sitting up. Will be crawling before we know it.

Overheard

Tristen, on watching a TV commercial for a pillow-pet night light on Qubo: "Don't they know that kids like me have to earn their toys? You can't always just 'Call now.'"

Flourless chocolate cake

Best chocolate cake ever, from Sue Bell:

Melt together:
1/4 cup of unsalted butter
6 to 7 oz bittersweet chocolate

Grind together:
1 cup of nuts (hazelnuts, pecans, almonds) with
    1 cup of sugar

Add:
    1 teaspoon vanilla
6 eggs (I usually separate some and whip the whites, then fold them into the batter.)

You can make the whole batter in a cuisinart.  First grinding nuts, adding sugar, then the choc mix, then vanilla and eggs.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes in a paper-lined 9" or 10" pan or a buttered flan dish.

If you want to cover it with chocolate, melt 3 to 4 oz chocolate with a tablespoon of butter and pour it on while it is still warm.

Snow day

Tillie's first snow. She slept through watching Tristen and Chris sled.
